Ek

24" x 24"
Pine
2024

Ek means one in Punjabi/Panjabi. This piece celebrates and encourages the unity of the state of Punjab/Panjabi on both sides of the Indian and Pakistani border. The Partition of India which enforced a border that cut through Northern India, not only severed physical communities and families but also led to a communal rift. The Partition of India is a dark chapter in Indian history, however as painful as it is, compassion, understanding and empathy can be used to unite this resilient region. Regardless of our background or how we identify, we always put Punjab/Panjab first and I think that’s a beautiful similarity to share. Mentally, the border should be non-existent.
